DaVinci’s Kids is proud to continue our summer camp offerings. These camps are three hour, week long classes that engage the imagination and passions of your child.Scholar camps are offered through the Stafford and Spotsylvania Parks and Recreation departments.All camps cost $129 and are for children aged 7-13. We look forward to playing and learning with your child.
DK Summer Camps for 2008
EcoKids
Making a difference starts at home. This camp shows DK scholars how to become active citizens who can positively impact their environment and their community now and in the future. We explore Earth’s biomes, consider renewable energy, discuss global warming, and plan for recycling, reusing, and reducing in our local and regional communities. Scholars create new paper from recycled material, propose an ecoplan for a local problem, and participate in alternative energy labs. This camp begins to solve today’s problems for tomorrow’s future.
CryptoKids
The DK Security Agency is looking for a few good scholars who can crack codes, hide messages, and keep our Country safe. Are you up for the job? This camp is a scramble of mystery and adventure. DK Scholars use the Caesar Alpha, a Cipher Disk, Morse Code and other elements of subtlety by deciphering, decoding, and encoding the clues to solve the mystery of the missing manuscript. Cryptology and Steganography are the tools of these scholars - don’t get caught in the dark on this one!
KidCast
One week, two broadcasts, and a ton of fun is the recipe for this camp. DK Scholars research a current issue and create a public service announcement for broadcast on DK Radio. Then Scholars are ready for the DK Newswith partners to prepare copy for a recorded broadcast, produce it and finally broadcast it for the DK News! Don’t leave the couch for this one - Stay tuned!
Space Camp
Houston, we don’t have a problem as long as our DK Scholars are exploring the outer reaches of our Universe. Blast off with this exciting camp as we explore Newton’s Laws and apply them to rocket propulsion, trajectory, astronaut life, star development, and planet exploration. Each Scholar creates their own rocket ship and launches it into the wild blue yonder. Don’t look for us in the classroom because our heads will be in the clouds.
Spontaneous Minds
This camp is packed full of puzzles brain teasers, and daunting tasks that limit Scholars to budget, resources, and time. These DK problem solvers work individually and in teams to exercise their imagination to work through challenging tasks that develop communication, problem solving, and collaborative skills. Don’t let your Scholar miss out on this exercise of the mind!
Heroes, Gods, and Monsters
The rocky cliffs of adventure are calling our DK Scholars as we unravel antiquity and explore the ancient mythologies of China, Greece, Rome, and Norway. With each new adventure students add a certification in their DK Mythology Passport as they create a Chinese dragon, a Grecian urn, a Roman Shield, Norwegian Troll and their very own DK Myth. These are the stories of history and the allusions of today; keep your scholar in the know.
DigiKids
The digital landscape is immense but not for our DK Scholars. From synchronous communications, multimedia publications and digital image editing, DigiKids equips the 21st century learner with 21st century technology.Talk about spicing up that display board. Scholars chat, blog, work with digital video and images to create a movie and PhotoStory.
LegoCamp
Bricks, plates, and axels build the foundations of this camp as DK Scholars work to complete challenging tasks and amazing trials. Scholars problem solve, program, and perform to meet the day’s challenge. This camp is great for developing your scholar’s communication, problem solving, and collaborative skills - essential for a future engineer.
